Love You to Death:

A New Canadian Musical

The year was 2016. The world was a different place (by which I mean there was not a pandemic happening). Melly and Caitlin were a year out of school, with a few shows under their belts, and about to take on their first musical. Love You To Death: A Murder Mystery Cabaret was created with a full storyline, and preexisting musical theatre songs. The story follows Derek Van Hout and his six lovers, with detectives Larry and Gerry trying to figure out which one of the lovers murdered Derek. It’s definitely a dark comedy vibe, and this was the first smash hit that Small but Mighty Productions had produced.

It was Caitlin’s dream for a long time to remount Love You To Death in 2020, as this marked the five year anniversary of its first production. It seemed intimidating to create original music for this show, but our production of Til Death Do Us Part was created entirely in a matter of months, so we knew it could be done. Music Director and Artist in Residence Quinton Naughton was too right when he said: “Next time, let’s start in January, not July.”

Unfortunately, due to the continuing pandemic and the risks of in person gatherings, Love You To Death's premiere was put on hold until further notice. So that’s what we’ve been up to! The script has been gutted, researched, and edited for the gods and is still a work in progress. Music and lyrics are being written and pieced together. The setting is changed, the year is 1996, and the vibe is grunge. We look forward to sharing how far this show has come as soon as it is safe to do so. We can hardly wait to show you what we've got!!
